Youth Rugby
Ever wonder why so many young people have a smile on their face every week? It is because they play rugby.
Youth rugby starts at U8 with flag rugby - there's no contact, you win the ball by pulling flags. At U10, we teach the players how to tackle safely: how to protect their head, how to land on the ground and how to keep hold of the ball! Players are taught to pass the ball backwards and to catch and pass whilst running.
At U10 we also start to structure the game a little more like rugby - we introduce scrums, although with reduced numbers and no pushing, and rucks to compete for the ball. Players also start to learn more about positions and patterns of play.
At U12 we add a few more players to the scrums (still no pushing) and we add lineouts to restart the game when the ball goes into touch (or out of bounds).
At all ages the players are taught the fundamentals and the laws of the game by experienced, certified coaches, and we place an emphasis on respect for the opposition and the match officials.
The best part is that everybody can play: rugby has a role for every type of athlete.
